Miscellaneous Pictures
This is some pictures of how I make bowls. And some misc pictures. Enjoy.

This is a picture of a Norfolk Pine tree, some of the Norfolk Pines that we get are over 200 feet tall.
This is a close up of the part of the Norfolk Pine tree, notice the branches that go all the way around the tree, it is these branches that make a nice pattern of red knots in the bowls I make.
This is a picture of some of the Norfolk Pine logs, some of the big logs are about 24 inches in diameter.

This is a chunk of Norfolk Pine that I cut into a bowl blank. Notice the color that is getting into the wood from spaulting.
This is the bowl blank mounted to the lathe and you can see the lathe spinning the bowl.
This is the bowl blank all trued up and ready to shape into a nice bowl.

The outside shape of the bowl is now done, time to do the inside now.
Now the inside is almost done.

Now the inside is all done, now it is time to let the bowl dry.
This is a picture of some bowls that I rough cut and are drying. It takes about 6 months to a year to dry.
This is 2 nice Norfolk Pine bowls that are all done and ready to sell.

Here you can see in the bottom left picture the wood slabs milled and ready to make bowls. The picture on the bottom right is the bowls that have been cut on the bandsaw to a round shape. The main picture shows the bowls in the rough cut stage, this is the stage that we let them dry for up to a year then we finish the bowls.
This is a Hawaiian Awa plant, Kava is called Awa in hawaii.
This is my daughter and grand daughter.

This is the root of the Awa (Kava)plant. It is the root that is used as a medicine.

This is a picture of the coastline in Kau Hawaii.
This is an area that had some trees that was going to be bull dozed, you can see how good it looks now as the grass is growing after the dozing and trees were taken out.

This is a forest of Mac Nut trees.

Me at my piano :) I started playing the piano about 7 years ago, I never took any lessons and I do not know how to read music or the chords I am playing, I play by ear only. I started because I love George Winston's music, so I got a piano and started to try to play his mucis, soon I was able to play some of his music and then soon after that I was writing my own songs, I hope you emjoy my music. This is after 3 of the Euc. trees were cut down, notice how small I look at the top of the trees in the hard hat. The trees measured about 90-100 feet tall.

This is a picture of the forest of trees that we harvest from. This forest is in Kau.
It seems that my grand daughter just loves to ride on my fork lift. Maybe she can take over the family business one day. :)
This is some of the Monkey Pod that we just milled, you can see the nice grain and color, these slabs are 17 inches wide, 10 feet long and 2 inches thick.

This is one of the roads on our way to where we harvest some of our wood. Very nice and lush area.
This is what it looks like before we come in. we take out certain trees and leave certain trees. all of these trees are Monkey Pod, Silver Oak, Java plum and Christmas Berry.
This is what it looks like after we are done, this is an area that was opened up for more pasture land.

This is an area of replanted Koa trees, about 14 acres, thay are growing very well.

This is the end of the day, leaving with a nice truck load of Monkey Pod logs.
This is a picture of when I went hiking in the Kau Desert.

In the Kau Desert there are foot prints from when a big eruption covered some Hawaiian warriors in 1790, these are some pictures of some of the 222 year old Hawaiian foot prints, thay have been preserved in the volcanic ash.

This is a close up of one of the foot prints, this one is full of sand and debris from 222 years of being in the desert.
